Wg Cdr Norman MacMillan OBE,MC,DL 1892-1976
Wing Commander Norman MacMillan, OBE,MC,DL was born in Glasgow in 1892. He served during World War 1 on the Western Front between 1917-18 with the Royal Flying Corps, flying Sopwith Camel aircraft, where he claimed eleven victories. .
Following the Great War, he and Geoffrey Mallins made an unsuccessful attempt to fly around the world in 1922. He also made the first flight Londn to Sweden in one day. He was Chief test pilot for the Fairey Aviation Co. (1929-30) where he made the maiden flight of the Fairey Fox. He became Chief Test Pilot with Armstrong Siddeley Development Co. (1931-32). He wrote several books throughout his career.
