S/Ldr Angus McKinnon McVitie FRAes 19xx-2004



He was awarded an RAF Pilot's brevet in 1951 . In 1952 he joined 201 Advanced flying school and then was posted t 511 Squadron at RAF Lyneham for Hastings Co-pilot duty. In 1953 he returned to 242 OCU for Transport Command captains course on valettas. Between 1953 and 1954 he was with 114 Squadron flying Valettas from Fayed in the Far East and was awarded VIP pilot category. Between 1954 and 1955 he was ADC to AOC 205 Group Middle East Air Force. In 1956 he graduated from 15 Course Empire Test Pilots' School Farnborough. Between 1957 and 1959 he was the test pilot at Experimental Flying Department Royal Aircraft Establisment Farnborough and OC National Gas Turbine Establishment flight flying Ashton, Canberra, Meteor and hunter aircraft. Between 1960 and 61 he was OC Aero Flight at RAE Bedford and was responsible for experimental test flying of Short SB5 Fairey Delta 2 Handley Page HP115, Short SC1, Avro 707, Vulcan and Comet 3B. Between 1963 and 1966 he was on loan with the Royal Malaysian Air Force OC Joint Operations Kuala Lampur. Between 1966 and 1968 he was Staff of RAF Operational Requirements branch in MOD Whitehall. He retired from the RAF in 1968 as a Squadron Leader. Between 1968 and 1990 he was Chief Test Pilot at College of Aeronautics Cranfield.
